WE MADE THE WORLD’S FIRST CIRCULAR SKATEBOARD

Plastic waste is a huge problem. So we decided to do our bit in a positive and inspiring way. Our aim was to show people, and particularly younger generations, that plastic waste is a valuable resource for fantastic new products. After some trial and error and a lot of hard work we created WasteBoards: skateboards made from plastic bottle caps.

WORKING WITH THE COMMUNITY TO MAKE IT WORK

The most important thing was to have a high quality product. That’s why we developed WasteBoards together with Amsterdam-based skateboarders. The bottle caps were collected together with the visitors of music events, school kids, companies, anyone willing to contribute.

SUSTAINABILITY DAY 2017: THE LAUNCH OF THE ‘JOIN THE RIDE’ CAMPAIGN

We created a brand environment, including a social and PR campaign, to make WasteBoards stand out from just every other skateboard brand. In the campaign every aspect of WasteBoards — skateboarding, sustainability and design — magically came together in a continuous swirl of plastic soup inviting people to take action.

WORLD FAMOUS IN THE NETHERLANDS

WasteBoards was covered by the Jeugdjournaal, Linda magazine, Enzo Knol, Discovery Channel and many other media platforms. This created enormous goodwill amongst skaters and shop owners. We were also a welcome guest at music festivals and events with the WasteBoard Bakery that allowed people to design and bake their own skateboard.

READY TO RIDE THE GLOBE
